CoIP Video – a type of video conferencing solution set up between three or more users based on a specialized video server that runs on a datacom network. This service can be provided both in the traditional (hosted) manner and by way of Centrex.
Videoconferencing speeds up and simplifies a variety of talks, negotiations, business meetings and training sessions and makes it possible to save time and money by dramatically reducing business trip expenses.
The main areas of application for videoconferencing include:
Business meetings;
Holding negotiations with partners in other cities of Russia and abroad;
Long-distance training;
Conducting long-distance interviews in headhunting;
Telemedecine;
Legal advisory.
Traditional videoconferencing (VC) provides a vital communication link to offices with a territorially diversified network and runs on the basis of a dedicated VC server. An N×M band is available where N is the number of video conference participants and M is the width of the stream generated by a codec. (Fig. 1)
A Centrex solution offers dramatic savings on customer communication channels, since only one video stream is used simultaneously for each office. This makes for an efficient video relay service as opposed to different video streams from multipoint office videoconferencing with a VC server. (Fig.2)
Key features
QoS parameters are used to guarantee the quality of the video and audio signal when transporting videoconference traffic on RTCOMM’s network.
All VC traffic is marked as real time and is relayed on a high-priority basis, which makes it possible to minimize such undesirable network parameters as delays, jitters and percentages of lost packages.
To obtain this service the following features are required:
installation of subscriber terminals ( fully functional “all-in-one”, compatible with PCs or on the basis of webcams connected to computers);
arranging an access channel with a speed of at least 2,048 Kbps,
allocating a Video VPN post on RTCOMM’s network.
The customer controls this service using specially designed software (Web Commander), whose interface makes it possible to:
plan conferences;
edit information on a customer’s videoterminals (IP address, number, name, image icon, which can be a person’s photograph).
RTCOMM uses a Polycom ACCORD MGC-100 as its VC server.
Supported subscriber speeds – up to 1.5 Mbps - H.323, up to2 Mbps - H.320;
Maximum number of users – 384 (at a speed of 384 Kbps based on IP).
As conference room terminals we recommend the Tandberg 990MXP and Tandberg 770MXP with a 43” plasma panel (optional).
Bandwidth used:
H.320 – up to 384 Kbps;
H.323 – up to 1.5 Mbps.
For top managers the following terminals are recommended:
17 “ Tandberg 1500MXP with liquid crystal display (16:9 form factor).
Bandwidth used:
H.320 – up to 512 Kbps;
H.323 – up to 2048 Kbps
12.1” Tandberg 1000 with liquid crystal display (4:3 form factor). The system is designed on the basis of the “all-in-one” principle (camera, microphone, monitor, dynamics).
Bandwidth used:
H.320 – up to 384 Kbps;
H.323 – up to 768 Kbps;
8.4” Tandberg 150 with liquid crystal display (4:3 form factor).
Bandwidth used:
H.323 – up to 512 Kbps;
All of the above terminals support:
video standards - Í.261, Í.263, Í.263++ (Natural Video), H.264;
audio standards - G.711, G.722, G.722.1, G.728;
As mid-quality terminals the following are recommended:
10” Aethra MaiaSta with liquid crystal display (4:3 factor form);
5” Aethra Theseus with liquid crystal display (4:3 factor form);
Polycom ViaVideoII – high-quality video camera with a high-performance multimedia processor.
All terminal support a connection both on the basis of IP (H.323 to 384 Kbps) and ISDN (up to 128 Kbps).
As budget terminals it would be advisable to use office PCs with Polycom PVX software.
Advantages
Greatest possible choice – when it comes to selecting the design and function of terminal (customer) equipment offered by the manufacturers.
Versatility and scalability – the customer can set up and run exactly as many workplaces as required at any given point in time.
Save money – no need to buy server equipment.
Optimize IT budgets – cut service and maintenance costs on expensive IT specialists.
